Shew. What a week in [[SA energy]]. COP26 consumed most of my energy attention, but South Africa had a week to remember: - First up - [[loadshedding]] at stage 4 in the week running up to local government elections. A total disaster for the [[ANC]]. [Here's](https://twitter.com/DawieScholtz/status/1452669536684158985?s=20) Dawie Scholtz making the observation more professionally on twitter. - Secondly, and seemingly related, the announcement of the winners of Round 5 [[REIPPP]]! Now, was the timing politically motivated? Certainly felt like it. - There were some crazy prices too in this round. - Third, former chief exec of [[Eskom]], Matshela Koko, accused of "cooking the books" during his tenure which avoided much of loadshedding. [Here's](https://www.news24.com/news24/analysis/explainer-matshela-kokos-alleged-cooking-of-eskoms-books-5-things-you-need-to-know-20211025) the news24 piece which I haven't read because it sits behind a paywall All of which underscores my point about modeling energy systems to account for and explore political decisions.
